Distance

Most Abilities have a limited range in terms of what they can target or what area they affect. Unless a Distance is described as being "True...", walls and other obstructions will obscure what's behind them, meaning those things don't count as being within the stated Distance. The following colloquial terms are used to refer to the most common Distances. While The Kleptonomicon is written primarily for play using the Theater of the Mind, real distances are also provided for help with adapting the game for play with miniatures and a map.

Swinging Distance

Up to about 1 meter (or yard) away.

Spearing Distance

Up to about 2 meters (or yards) away.

Spitting Distance and Walking Distance

Up to about 4 meters (or yards) away.

Throwing Distance and Running Distance

Up to about 8 meters (or yards) away.

Shooting Distance and Sprinting Distance

Up to about 16 meters (or yards) away.

Sniping Distance

Up to about 200 meters (or yards) away.

Seeing Distance

As far as you should be able to see or up to about 400 meters (or yards) away.

Any Distance

Any distance, no matter how far that may be. This always counts as a True Distance. It can also flow into and through portals to other realms. Only if a realm were truly isolated with no connecting portals anywhere would this Distance be limited.
