Protégé

You are a Protégé of a powerful Patron. Your Patron will give you a Quest (created by the GM) that will likely take 3 or more Episodes to accomplish. If you complete your Quest, you can gain two Experience Points.
Flavor (Choose one):
- Enchanting. Your Patron is a creature capable of powerful enchantments. They are capable of enchanting you, granting you new Trait Abilities. As examples of Quests, they may require that you push the limits of your body or collect powerful sets of ingredients or research components.
- Influential. Your Patron is a creature with widespread influence. They are capable of granting you a portion of their social power. As examples of Quests, they may require that you play a direct hand in shaping the current balances of political power, weather that be by the blade or by more subtle means. Their requests may not always make sense, but no puppet can see its strings.
- Magical. Your Patron is a being of significant magic. They are capable of giving you magical power in return for your service. As examples of Quests, you may need to follow leads and track down magical creatures to slay or magical items that your Patron wants for themselves (that you should not use!)
- Material. Your Patron is a creature with significant wealth. They are capable of giving you powerful Items. As examples of Quests, you may be asked to steal, smuggle, or protect things for them or hunt down someone who stole from their hoard. They may also demand tribute in the form of your most prized possessions.
Upon taking your first Upgrade, you enter into a Pact with your Patron. While in the Pact, your Patron can grant you new Quests. Failing a Quest or making your Patron mad can bring about dire circumstances.
The number of Upgrades you can have on this Ability is limited to the number of Quests you have completed for your Patron. All Upgrades can also be taken instead of learning a new Social Ability. If ever your Patron dies, you must find a new one before you can take on new Upgrades (and your GM may ask that you change your Flavor going forward to match your new Patron.)
If ever you want to be free from your Pact, inform your GM, who will work to give you options as a part of the plot. Once free from your Pact, you can maintain your current benefits of this Ability and your Patron will no longer give you Quests and can no longer punish you. (But you are not barred from taking Upgrades up to the normal completed-Quests limit.)
- Diversified.
- Choose a second Flavor. Your Patron has introduced you to a friend of the family or will, in the future, give you access to their other capabilities.
- Enchanted(1). Requires Enchanting flavor.
- Gain 1 Trait Ability.
- Enchanted(2). Requires Level 10 and the Enchanting flavor.
- Gain 1 Trait Ability.
- Influential(1). Requires Influential flavor.
- Gain a Social Skill Improvement and a Language Skill of your choice.
- You cannot Fail a Rumor Skill Test.
- Influential(2). Requires Level 10 and the Influential flavor.
- Increase your lowest Social Skill by 2 (choose if their is a tie.)
- You cannot Fail a History Skill Test.
- Magical(1). Requires Magical flavor.
- Choose one:
- Gain an Ability from the Mage Ability List.
- Gain one Spell Ability with one Upgrade on it. The Spell Ability should relate to your Patron in some way. You can always roll the Spell Ability chosen with a
+2
instead of that Spell Ability's listed Ability Skill.
- Choose one:
- Magical(2). Requires Level 10 and the Magical flavor.
- Choose one:
- Gain an Ability from the Mage Ability List.
- Gain one Spell Ability with two Upgrade on it. The Spell Ability should relate to your Patron in some way. You can always roll the Spell Ability chosen Magical(1) and Magical(2) with a
+4
instead of that Spell Ability's listed Ability Skill.
- Choose one:
- Material(1). Requires Influential flavor.
- Gain an Item Upgrade of your choice.
- Choose one:
- Change the Item Grade of one of your Items to any other Item Grade.
- Gain an Awesome Grade (or lower) Item of your choice.
- Gain an Item from the Special Items of the GM's choosing that has the "Consumed" Item Tag.
- Material(2). Requires Level 10 and the Influential flavor.
- Gain an Item Upgrade of your choice.
- Choose one:
- Gain an Item of your choice at an Item Grade of your choice.
- Gain an Item from the Special Items of the GM's choosing that does not have the "Consumed" Item Tag.
