2.9. Tracker Boxes
The first two boxes on Page 3 of the Character Sheet contain everything you will need to build and improve your character as you play.
At the top-right of the page you will find a small box to track your Experience Points. Below that will be a place to track your character's Perks that you can choose from as you Level Up.
At the center-top of the page, you will find the Lineage box, which will help you in narrowing down what [[#Trait Features]] may fit best for your character. Below that box, you will find a place to note your [[#Constitution]] and [[#Class]] along with a place to log which [[#Trait Features]] and [[#Class Features]] you chose to take.
Experience
For each Experience Point you gain, you will mark one bubble on the Experience track found on Page 3 of your Character Sheet.
Once the Experience track has been filled by gaining 20 Experience Points, you can Level Up. When you Level Up, reset your Experience to 0, add one Level to your Level to one of your [[#Archetype Trackers]].
The GM will usually reward Experience Points at key points in the story and two points at the end of each successful Encounter that you are involved in. Your GM may also grant Experience for completing hidden, Secondary Objectives.
The most common Secondary Objectives involve staying engaged with the story by:
- Learning important information from your discussions with NPCs.
- Uncovering new, hidden details about the current story.
- Finding or interacting with important objects.
- Achieving goals in an optional, more difficult way.
Level Tracker
The Level Tracker is where you will track your overall character Level, along with the number of Social, Class, and Trait Abilities that you can gain and have already gained.
Level
Your Level generally starts at 1 and cannot exceed 15, though your GM may begin your character at a Level higher than 1.
At Level 1, you get a starting number of Abilities that you can pick up (2 Social Abilities, 5 Trait Abilities, and 3 Class Abilities) for creating your character. These can be found in the first column of the [[#Level Tracker]].
Your Level may limit what Abilities you can gain. Many Abilities will list a certain minimum Level as one of their Requirements. If you cannot meet that Requirement, then the Ability cannot be taken (as it would always Fail.)
Whenever you gain a Abilities of each type found in the current Level's column of the Abilities until the end of the current Episode, unless your GM says otherwise. All available Abilities can be found in the Ability List.
At certain Levels, as shown on the tracker, you will also be able to Upgrade certain Abilities. For example, at Level 3 you gain your choice of a Class or a Trait Ability Upgrade. In order to take an Upgrade, you must first know the Ability. All Upgrades for an Ability can be found listed at the bottom of that Ability. Much like Abilities themselves, you may need to reach certain Levels before you can take on those Upgrades.
Some Upgrades will be named the same, suffixed by a number (as in Powerful(1) and Powerful(2).) These Upgrades are a series. A series has an implicit requirement that you take each Upgrade in order, with the latest one superseding the details of the previous one for a stronger effect.
Abilities with Prestige Upgrades allow you to take on new, powerful abilities that help shape and define your character in more pronounced ways. If you cannot find a Prestige Upgrade that you want to take, it can also be used to gain any other Upgrade on any other Ability.
- #Alice fills in the

on the top row of her [[#Level_Tracker]]. - Checking the '2' column of the Class Ability.
- #Alice waits until the Episode has come to a close.
- #Alice selects a Class Ability (that is available to a Level 2 character) then fills in the Class Ability bubble on the [[#Level Tracker]] to indicate that she has made her choice.
Level Perks
At each Level, you can also choose one Perk from the Perk list at the bottom of the Perk list is divided into two columns. The left column are Basic Perks. After choosing your fifth Basic Perk (usually at level 5), you unlock the ability to start choosing Advanced Perks from the right column.
All Perks can be chosen immediately upon Leveling Up and their benefits can be used in the current Episode.
- After #Alice levels up to Level 2, #Alice can immediately choose a Level Perk.
- #Alice has only one Basic Perk, so she cannot yet choose an Advanced Perk. #Alice chooses the perk that lets her gain one Social Ability Upgrade.
If you need a more detailed description of what each Level Perk does, see the Perk List.
Archetype Trackers
There are three Archetype Trackers that grant Archetype Abilities and Perks unique to each. The three Archetypes are: Fighter, Rogue, and Mage.
You will need to decide which Archetypes will best represent your character and then prioritize that Archetype when choosing where to assign your Archetype Levels. Generally speaking, you will probably want to choose the Archetype that matches your highest Exploration Stat, as each Ability you gain will generally have higher rates of success if you do.
Archetype Level
Whenever your character gains a Level, you will also gain one Archetype Level, to be put into one of the three Archetypes' Trackers.
When you start the game, you will start by choosing a Primary Archetype and a Secondary Archetype. Once chose, you will be able to immediately place 4 Levels into your Primary Archetype, gaining all benefits of those levels. You will also be able to place 2 Levels into your Secondary Archetype, again gaining the benefits of those levels. The Archetype you did not choose to be your Primary Archetype or your Secondary Archetype will be your Tertiary Archetype.
Each Archetype has a maximum Level of 15. Since your Primary Archetype starts at Level 4, that means you will end up with at least 4 Levels that you will have to spend in an Archetype other than your Primary Archetype. Most of the time you will want to spend those points on your Secondary Archetype, so you can benefit from its Advanced Perks, but you are not required to do so.
Archetype Perks
Just like on the Perks are divided into Basic Perks and Advanced Perks. Before you can choose the Advanced Perks of an Archetype, you must first chose 5 Basic Perks of that Archetype.
Fighter Tracker
Every 3 Fighter Levels you will gain an Ability from the Fighter Ability List.
For a detailed description of what each Fighter Perk does, see the Perk List.
Rogue Tracker
Every 2 Rogue Levels, you will gain an Ability from the Rogue Ability List.
For a detailed description of what each Rogue Perk does, see the Perk List.
Mage Tracker
Every three Mage Levels you will gain a Ability from the Mage Ability List. At all other Mage Levels you will instead gain a Spell Ability from the Spell Ability List.
For a detailed description of what each Mage Perk does, see the Perk List.
