2.7. Abilities Page
At the top of Page 2 of your Character Sheet, you will find a reference to your [[#Default Damage]] values: your [[#Melee Damage]] and your [[#Ranged Damage]].
Below that, you will find several boxed used for Abilities that should go within that box: Primary Abilities, Secondary Abilities, and Tertiary Abilities.
It is recommended that you learn use the Abilities shorthand discussed in 1.5. Abilities. Doing so will help save space and help you find things faster while playing.
Weapon Damage Boxes
Your Melee Attack and Ranged Attack can have their Damage modified by the Perks and weapons you choose to take. The Weapon Damage Boxes serve as a helpful place to note the total Damage that you can deal. If you have multiple weapons, you may need to list several values in each box.
Melee Damage Box
Place the amount of Damage you will deal with your Melee Attack here. Note each Score Range's Damage amount separated by a /
. If you do not have a Melee Weapon or any Perks, you should note the default of 0/1/2/3!
Solid/Blunt Damage.
Ranged Damage
Place the total amount of Damage you will deal with your Ranged Attack here. Again, note each Score Range's Damage amount separated by a /
. If you do not have a Ranged Weapon, you should note the default of -/0/1/2!
Solid/Blunt Damage.
Even without a Ranged Weapon, you can often still perform an improvised Ranged Attack by throwing objects you find nearby. When making an improvised Ranged Attack, you will have the "Improvised" Penalty.
Organizing Abilities
You have three Archetype Stats which are used when performing your various Abilities (see 1.5. Abilities and the upcoming chapter on 2.9. Tracker Boxes, for more.) To help keep things clean, the Abilities page of your Character Sheet contains three boxes, one for each of your Archetype Stats.
After setting up a new character, you will generally take your highest Archetype Stat and write it in the Primary Box. Your second-highest Archetype Stat will then be copied to the Secondary Box. Lastly, your lowest Archetype Stat will be copied into the Tertiary Box.
Once each box has been labeled, you can then copy all your Abilities into the box that corresponds with the ability needed for that skill.
#Bob has just finished filling out page 3 of his Character Sheet, the character builder page. He is now filling out page 2, the abilities page.
- #Bob has more Levels in the Fighter Archetype than any other Archetype.
#Bob writes 'Fighter' on the blank line inside the Primary Box. - #Bob writes his Fighter Stat of
3
in the Modifier box next to the word 'Primary' in the Primary Box. - #Bob notes that his next highest Archetype Level is the Rogue Archetype.
#Bob writes 'Rogue' on the blank line inside the Secondary Box. - #Bob writes his Rogue Stat of
1
in the Modifier box next to the word 'Secondary' in the Secondary Box. - #Bob's only remaining Archetype is the Mage Archetype.
#Bob writes 'Mage' on the blank line inside the Tertiary Box. - #Bob writes his Mage Stat of
0
in the Modifier box next to the word 'Tertiary' in the Tertiary Box. - Now that all boxes are labeled, #Bob copies down all of his Abilities, placing each in it's appropriate box.
Ability Time Shorthand
When copying an Ability to your character sheet, you will generally organize each Ability into the section of the relevant Ability Skill and note the Ability Time next to it: "A" for Action, "FA" for Free Action, "SA" for Slow Action, "R" for Reaction, "FR" for Free Reaction, or "P" for Passive.
If an Ability has any special notes about its Ability Time, like if there are conditions associated with that time, then you should mark your Ability Time with an asterisk.
